Every site supervisor memorizes standard nominal ratios. M20 is 1 part cement, 1.5 parts sand, and 3 parts aggregate. M15 is 1:2:4. But the moment you require high-strength concrete like M30, M40, or M50 for commercial columns, highway infrastructure, or high-rises, those simple thumb rules completely fail.

The Danger of Volume Batching: Using metal pans (taslas) or excavator buckets to measure concrete ingredients is called Volume Batching. The fatal flaw here is the Bulking of Sand. When sand is even slightly damp, the surface tension of the water pushes the grains apart, increasing the physical volume of the sand by up to 20-30%. If you use a volume bucket to measure "1.5 parts" of wet sand, you are actually putting significantly less sand into the mixer than the chemistry requires.
